I really enjoyed the article, but you misunderstand Gen-X — that’s ok, everyone has always misunderstood Gen-X, it’s why we are… Gen-X always cared, but we couldn’t voice it — Millenials think they are oppressed by the Boomers, but we were not only in their shadow — we were drowning in a world built around them, where only their voices were heard and we were force fed what they claimed to care about (loudly) until they tossed it aside for something more self-serving. Yes — the quiet, subversion of Halpert is spot on — but Gen-X subversion wasn’t about lack of caring. We accomplished a lot through subversion and destruction of the old every time the Boomers looked the other way — just look at the tech industry and how it nearly brought down Microsoft, Oracle and Intel. We’re still the tiny Generation that’s shoehorned Boomers and Millenials, but without the same voice or power, we’ve still learned a lot about how to get things done — because care a lot, we just aren’t talking about about it incessantly. I can’t speak for a whole generation, but I’ll say that I’d rather be accused of being a slacker because I didn’t finish what I started, than a hypocrite because I never started what I talked incessantly about doing (Boomer).
